Review: Behind Her Eyes

Behind Her Eyes
Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It’s easy to see why there is a comparison to Girl on the Train and Gone Girl. Behind Her Eyes is told in the same manner. Chapters come from different people, and from their point of view. What isn’t the same as either of those is the way it ends. Not the way it twists at the end, but the EXTRA twist at the VERY end. I’d figured it out just over halfway through, but I didn’t take it far enough. I absolutely love that this had me fooled. It’s hard to do when I read as much as I do, and Sara Pinborough got me good! Great story, deep characters, and excellent narration by Anna Bentinck, Josie Dunn, Bea Holland, and Huw Parmenter.

Review: The Apartment

The Apartment
The Apartment by S.L. Grey
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The first time I think a movie of a book would be better than the book. Good story, too long though; too wordy.

Review: Red Spring

Red Spring
Red Spring by D.J. Bodden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was not expecting that!

This latest in the Black Year Series does not disappoint. I spent much of this book audibly gasping in surprise and saying, “Whaaaaa…?”. So GOOD!! My emotions went from low to high over and over, and left my jaw on the floor at the end. I was way off about how I thought this third book would go, and have no clue as to what could follow in the final season of the Black Year. I can’t wait to find out! This is still one of my favorite urban fantasy series that I’ve read.

Even though I’ve pre-ordered the book, this review is based on the ARC copy of Red Spring that I received for my honest review.

Review: A Moonlit Task: An Urban Fantasy Mystery Novel

A Moonlit Task: An Urban Fantasy Mystery Novel
A Moonlit Task: An Urban Fantasy Mystery Novel by Tom Hansen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely love the main character Nancy, and her best friend Edna. It is not often that we get to read about older women having the same type of self discovery and adventures as we find in other urban fantasy stories. Instead of they typical young woman or man going through some changes and discovering something fantastic about themselves, we instead are witness to two older woman who have the fantastic thrust upon them, seemingly without any warning.

The story that follows as Nancy and Edna try to navigate the strange and curious tasks placed upon them is not only scary and intense, but fun and light-hearted at times, too. If you’re looking for a great book that gives the urban fantasy genre some much needed substance and depth, look no further. I’m already excited for the next book featuring Nancy and Edna!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of A Moonlit Task for my honest review. Thanks to Tom Hansen for this privilege.
