Good but slow

This book was hard to get into. I was overwhelmed with the way the Paladins spoke, at first. It really made it hard to follow with an audio book. Once the story progressed and I was finally into to the “meat” of the tale, I found that it was hard to stop reading.

I am looking forward to seeing where the characters go and what they’ll do, in the next book.

Reading: Contagious by Scott Sigler

I’m in need of a book that I know has a good author. So I’m reading book 2 in the Infected series by Scott Sigler. This time I’m going for just audobook, I much prefer audiobooks over reading, if I can. My eyes can’t read nearly as long as my ears can.

Contagious (Infected, #2)

“From the acclaimed author of Infected comes an epic and exhilarating story of humanity’s secret battle against a horrific enemy.
Across America, a mysterious pathogen transforms ordinary people into raging killers, psychopaths driven by a terrifying, alien agenda. The human race fights back, yet after every battle the disease responds, adapts, using sophisticated strategies and brilliant ruses to fool its pursuers. The only possible explanation: the epidemic is driven not by evolution but by some malevolent intelligence.

Standing against this unimaginable threat is a small group, assembled under the strictest secrecy. Their best weapon is hulking former football star Perry Dawsey, left psychologically shattered by his own struggles with this terrible enemy, who possesses an unexplainable ability to locate the disease’s hosts. Violent and unpredictable, Perry is both the nation’s best hope and a terrifying liability. Hardened CIA veteran Dew Phillips must somehow forge a connection with him if they’re going to stand a chance against this maddeningly adaptable opponent. Alongside them is Margaret Montoya, a brilliant epidemiologist who fights for a cure even as she reels under the weight of endless horrors.

These three and their team have kept humanity in the game, but that’s not good enough anymore, not when the disease turns contagious, triggering a fast countdown to Armageddon. Meanwhile, other enemies join the battle, and a new threat — one that comes from a most unexpected source — may ultimately prove the most dangerous of all.

Catapulting the reader into a world where humanity’s life span is measured in hours and the president’s finger hovers over the nuclear button, rising star Scott Sigler takes us on a breathtaking, hyper-adrenalized ride filled with terror and jaw-dropping action. Contagious is a truly grand work of suspense, science, and horror from a new master.

Infected: Review

Infected (Infected, #1)Infected by Scott Sigler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read this as immersion reading with my Kindle, and I absolutely enjoyed Mr. Sigler doing the narration himself. It’s difficult for most male narrators to provide female voices that aren’t laughable, but the author did a terrific job.

This was especially creepy for me to read this book right now, because I happen to have allergic hives currently, and at times I couldn’t be sure if it was my allergies or the story that was causing me to itch. Adding to the creepiness, the author took the time to tie actual science into the story, making the claims seem that much more believable.

Infected had some interesting characters that I have come to care about, and I look forward to reading the next book in the Infected series.

Moving on, now I’m Infected

I tried, I really did. I just could not get through the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. It sounds like it would be my type of book, from the title alone, but it wasn’t. So, moving on…

Infected (Infected, #1)
by

“Across America a mysterious disease is turning ordinary people into raving, paranoid murderers who inflict brutal horrors on strangers, themselves, and even their own families.

Working under the government’s shroud of secrecy, CIA operative Dew Phillips crisscrosses the country trying in vain to capture a live victim. With only decomposing corpses for clues, CDC epidemiologist Margaret Montoya races to analyze the science behind this deadly contagion. She discovers that these killers all have one thing in common – they’ve been contaminated by a bioengineered parasite, shaped by a complexity far beyond the limits of known science.

Meanwhile Perry Dawsey – a hulking former football star now resigned to life as a cubicle-bound desk jockey – awakens one morning to find several mysterious welts growing on his body. Soon Perry finds himself acting and thinking strangely, hearing voices . . . he is infected.

The fate of the human race may well depend on the bloody war Perry must wage with his own body, because the parasites want something from him, something that goes beyond mere murder”

Review of Nocturnal, by Scott Sigler

Nocturnal: A NovelNocturnal: A Novel by Scott Sigler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Not what i expected!

I thought I was getting a cop, thriller story. Turns out I got some awesome cop/SciFi/horror/thriller/fantasy instead! This story at first was so confusing, I felt frustrated. That didn’t last long though as the story slowly starts to come together. Filled with colorful characters, and monsters from nightmares, this book is crazy fun!

God is Dead – Finished

Hmm. I’m not sure what to say, this wasn’t the type of book I’d choose to read, but I read it for a book club.

That said, I will say that I enjoyed a few of the stories, and the writing was very good. But, I admit that I am very glad to be done. I’m pleased with myself that I pushed through, but I cannot recommend this book. I know that some people loved it and felt it was brilliant, right on, I just am not one of you. I was bored through the whole book.

I do have a thought about the idea behind the book. I think it would make a great horror novel! I’m not creative enough to write one, but I hope someone does. There is so much potential with this idea. Maybe someone has already, if so, let me know.

Peace.

In Her Skin

I love when I watch a movie, and then at the end, before the credits, there is an update about the actual people portrayed in the movie.

What?! That was a true story?!

Yeah, I love that. Well, sort of, I don’t want the messed up stories to be true (like this movie), but yeah, I love that!

Anyway, I thought this movie was very good, thanks to good acting.
